Who we are
Marlin (marlinfx.com) is an independent financial market intelligence website operated by Volodymyr Kravchenko, who is the data controller for the data described here. You can reach us through the contact page for any question about this policy or your data.
What we collect and why
Email address (newsletter, early-access and contact forms)
If you subscribe to the newsletter, ask for early access to a tool, or send a message, we receive the details you enter (email address, and your name and message on the contact form) and the page the form was submitted from. We use them only to send what you asked for and to reply to you. Forms are processed by Netlify Forms, our hosting provider. If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email address and the page you signed up from are also passed to MailerLite, which we use to store the subscriber list and send the emails; MailerLite may record whether an email is opened or a link is clicked, which we use only to improve the newsletter. Contact messages and sign-ups are also recorded in HubSpot, the customer relationship management (CRM) tool we use to keep track of enquiries and replies: your email address, name, the topic and message you chose and the form you used. You can unsubscribe at any time, and you can ask us to delete your data.
If you send a reader question from a page (the form headed "Your questions"), we receive the question text, the topic you chose, the page it was sent from and, only if you enter it, your email address, which we use only to reply. These questions stay in Netlify Forms: they are not added to the newsletter and are not sent to MailerLite or HubSpot. We read them to decide what to explain next, and we never publish a name or an email address. Do not enter personal or account details in the question.
Analytics (only with your consent)
If you click Accept in the cookie banner, we load Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity. They use cookies or similar identifiers to measure which pages are viewed, how visitors move through the site, device and browser type, approximate location and, for Clarity, interaction data such as clicks and scrolling. We also record when a partner link is clicked (which partner, on which page and placement) so we can see which content is useful. If you click Decline, none of these tools are loaded.
Your cookie choice
We store your choice (accepted or declined) in your browser's local storage so we do not ask again on every page. Clearing the site's data in your browser removes it, and the banner will appear again.
Server logs
Our hosting provider (Netlify) processes technical data such as IP address, requested URL and user agent to deliver the site and keep it secure.
If you type a question into Ask Marlin on the Intelligence pages, the question text is sent to Anthropic (the provider of the Claude AI model) together with the market data shown on the page, only to generate the answer. Do not enter personal information. We do not store the question text; we keep only a daily question count per visitor, keyed by a one-way hash of your IP address that changes every day, to enforce usage limits.
Site search and voice input
Searching the site happens in your browser; we record only anonymous usage events (for example that a search was made and how long the query was), not the text you type. If you send a question to Ask Marlin from the search box, it is handled as described above. The microphone button uses your browser's own speech recognition (in Chrome, for example, audio is processed by Google); we receive only the resulting text if you send it as a question.
Push notifications
If you turn on alerts on the Intelligence, oil market or Today pages, your browser gives us a push subscription: an address at your browser's push service (Google for Chrome and Android, Mozilla for Firefox, Apple for Safari, Microsoft for Edge) and two encryption keys. We store it in Netlify Blobs with the alerts you chose (for example the EIA weekly report, oil price moves, or the session and release briefs) and any alert thresholds you set (for example "Cushing stocks below 22 million barrels"), and nothing else: no name, email or IP address. Notifications are encrypted and delivered through that push service. Turning alerts off on the page, or blocking notifications in your browser, deletes or invalidates the subscription; subscriptions the push service reports as expired are deleted automatically.
EIA Challenge
If you play the EIA Challenge, we store the public nickname you choose, your forecasts, your points and a random secret that links your browser to your player (kept in your browser's local storage; we keep only a one-way hash of it). Nicknames, forecasts and scores appear on public leaderboards. To limit abuse we count new players per visitor per day using a one-way hash of the IP address that changes daily; the IP address itself is not stored. To have a player deleted, contact us with its nickname.
Calculator settings
The prop firm lot size calculator remembers your account settings (balance, loss limits, risk per trade and instrument) in your browser's local storage so that a page reload does not clear them. They stay on your device: they are not sent to us or to anyone else, and they are not linked to you. Use "Reset and forget" in the calculator, or clear the site's data in your browser, to remove them.
The Today page remembers your choice of firm and account stage and your pre-trade checklist, with the days you completed it, in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device and are not sent to us or to anyone else; clear the site's data in your browser to remove them.
Payments (Marlin Pro)
If you buy Marlin Pro, the payment is handled by Paddle (Paddle.com Market Limited), our reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle collects your card or payment details, billing address and tax information under its own privacy policy; we never see your full card number. Paddle tells us your email address, country, the plan you bought, and payment and subscription status, which we use to give you access, send receipts and handle support and refunds. We keep these records for as long as the law requires for accounting and tax purposes.
Embedded third-party content
Some pages embed widgets from TradingView (for example charts or an economic calendar). They load only after you accept cookies in the banner or press "Load" on the widget. Loading a widget connects your browser to TradingView, which may set its own cookies and receive your IP address under its own privacy policy. If you decline, the widget stays a placeholder. Some pages also show partner banners whose images are hosted by the partner (for example FTMO's content delivery network). Loading such an image connects your browser to that partner's servers, which may process your IP address under their own privacy policy.
Affiliate links
The Trading Journal, the Trade Gate, the trading plan template and the Tilt checklist keep what you type in your browser (local storage) on your own device. We do not receive it. Clearing site data, or the delete buttons, removes it.
The globe button in the header, "Translate this page", opens the page you are on through Google Translate in a new tab. We send nothing to Google ourselves; once you open the translated copy, Google handles that request under its own privacy policy. Translations are automatic, so the English page is the reference for firm rules and risk warnings.
Some links lead to partner websites (for example brokers, prop trading firms and charting platforms). When you follow one, the partner's own privacy and cookie policies apply. Partners may report aggregated or anonymised conversion information to us; we never ask for, and do not receive, your account login details or funds. See our affiliate disclosure.
Legal bases (EEA and UK visitors)
We rely on your consent for analytics cookies, the newsletter and push notifications, and on our legitimate interest in running and securing the website and replying to your messages. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Who receives your data
Only the service providers described above: Netlify (hosting and forms), Paddle (payments for Marlin Pro), MailerLite (newsletter emails), HubSpot (CRM: contact messages and sign-ups), Google (Analytics 4), Microsoft (Clarity), Anthropic (answers to Ask Marlin questions you submit), your browser's push service (if you turn on alerts) and, where you use their widgets or links, TradingView and the partner you visit. These providers may process data outside your country (including in the United States); where the law requires it, they rely on recognised transfer mechanisms such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. If you follow or message Marlin on Telegram, X or Instagram, those platforms process your data under their own policies, and we receive only what you send us.
How long we keep data
Newsletter and contact details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, or until they are no longer needed to answer your message. Analytics data is kept according to the retention settings of the analytics provider. Reader questions are kept until we delete them or you ask us to. Push subscriptions are kept until you turn alerts off or the push service reports them as expired.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, restrict or object to its processing, receive a copy of it, and withdraw consent. Contact us through the contact page. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Marlin is not directed at anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data we will update this page and its date. This page describes our current practices; it is general information and not legal advice.
