About the EIA weekly report

What is the EIA Weekly Petroleum Status Report?

A weekly report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration with US crude oil and product inventories, production, imports and refinery activity for the week ending the previous Friday. It is one of the most watched regular data points for WTI.

When is the EIA crude inventory report released?

Usually on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Eastern time. In weeks with a US federal holiday it moves to Thursday. This page shows the next scheduled release.

Why does Cushing matter for WTI?

Cushing, Oklahoma is the delivery point for NYMEX WTI futures, so stock changes there are closely linked to the prompt WTI market.

How is the 5-year average calculated?

Marlin averages EIA's own values for the same week in each of the previous five years. It is a reference level, not a forecast or a consensus estimate.
