What it is
Gross domestic product measures the value of goods and services produced in the US. The Bureau of Economic Analysis publishes each quarter in three steps: an advance estimate, a second estimate and a third estimate, each at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time.
Markets that often watch it: Gold, Forex, US dollar.
How markets tend to use it
Analysis, not a forecast
- The advance estimate usually gets the most attention; later estimates revise it.
- Markets compare the figure with expectations and look at its components, not only the headline.
- GDP is released with other data on some days (for example Personal Income and Outlays), so moves can mix several releases.
Before the release: a short checklist
- Note the release time in your own time zone (shown above).
- Check whether other reports come out at the same time on that day.
- Decide your risk before the release.

Trading GDP in a funded account?
Prop firms restrict trading around some news, but only in some phases and on some account types. What their own pages said on 23 Sep 2026:
- FTMO: FTMO's FAQ names GDP among its restricted events. On a Standard FTMO Account (not during the evaluation) there is a 2-minute window before and after it.
- FundedNext: no news adjustment in the Challenge. On Stellar funded accounts, only 40% of the profit from trades in the window is counted toward the account balance. Losses in the window count in full. Window: 5 minutes before to 5 minutes after listed high-impact news.
- FundingPips: on master accounts, profits from trades in a 5-minute window around high-impact news (10 minutes around speeches) may be deducted; purposely trading news is prohibited in all phases. High-impact events in the FundingPips Economic Calendar on the trader dashboard.

When is the next US GDP release?
The BEA schedule lists the Q2 2026 third estimate on 30 September, and the Q3 2026 advance estimate on 29 October, second estimate on 25 November and third estimate on 23 December, each at 8:30 a.m. ET.
What is the difference between advance, second and third estimates?
They are successive estimates of the same quarter. Each one uses more complete source data, so the figure can be revised.
Why do GDP and PCE come out on the same day?
On several dates in 2026 the BEA releases GDP and Personal Income and Outlays (which contains the PCE price index) together at 8:30 a.m. ET.
