What it is
The Bureau of Economic Analysis' monthly Personal Income and Outlays report includes the price index for personal consumption expenditures (PCE). The Federal Reserve defines its 2% longer-run inflation goal with the annual change in this index. The report is published at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time.

How markets tend to use it
Analysis, not a forecast
- Because CPI comes out earlier, part of the PCE figure is often anticipated; markets react to the surprise that remains.
- It matters for the expected path of Federal Reserve policy, which feeds into the dollar, real yields and gold.
Before the release: a short checklist
- Note the release time in your own time zone (shown above).
- Check whether GDP is released on the same day (29 October, 25 November and 23 December 2026).
- Decide your risk before the release.
Size the trade for the stop you would actually use around a release with the position size calculator.
Trading PCE in a funded account?
Prop firms restrict trading around some news, but only in some phases and on some account types. What their own pages said on 23 Sep 2026:
- FTMO: FTMO's FAQ does not name PCE among the examples it lists; its economic calendar decides which events are restricted on a Standard FTMO Account.
- FundedNext: no news adjustment in the Challenge. On Stellar funded accounts, only 40% of the profit from trades in the window is counted toward the account balance. Losses in the window count in full. Window: 5 minutes before to 5 minutes after listed high-impact news.
- FundingPips: on master accounts, profits from trades in a 5-minute window around high-impact news (10 minutes around speeches) may be deducted; purposely trading news is prohibited in all phases. High-impact events in the FundingPips Economic Calendar on the trader dashboard.
Rules change and differ by account type. VERIFY CURRENT DATA on the firm's own page before you trade.

Frequently asked questions
When is the next PCE release?
The BEA schedule lists Personal Income and Outlays on 30 September (August data), 29 October (September data), 25 November (October data) and 23 December (November data), each at 8:30 a.m. ET.
Why does the Fed use PCE instead of CPI?
The Federal Reserve states its 2% goal in terms of the PCE price index. The Fed's FAQ explains its reasons; both indexes measure consumer prices but are built differently.
Is PCE on FTMO's restricted list?
FTMO's FAQ names several events (for example CPI, GDP and US Non-Farm Employment) but PCE is not among those it lists by name. Its economic calendar is the authority: check it before trading.
