Short answer

September US CPI is scheduled for Wednesday 14 October at 8:30 a.m. ET (12:30 UTC). On a Standard FTMO Account, trades cannot be opened or closed from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after a restricted event; FTMO lists CPI among the events that restrict XAUUSD and DXY. FundedNext counts only 40% of profit from trades within 5 minutes of listed news on Stellar funded accounts. FundingPips may deduct profits from trades within 5 minutes on master accounts.

Key takeaways

  • In the evaluation, FTMO and FundedNext do not restrict news trading; FundingPips states that purposely trading news is prohibited in all phases.
  • FTMO: 2 minutes either side, Standard FTMO Account only. CPI is listed for XAUUSD and DXY; check FTMO's calendar for other symbols. Swing accounts have no news restriction.
  • FundedNext: 5 minutes either side on Stellar funded accounts, 40% of profit counted, losses count in full.
  • FundingPips: 5 minutes either side on master accounts; trades opened 5 hours or more before are excluded.

The rules on 14 October

FTMOStandard FTMO Account (funded)2 min before to 2 min afterNo opening or closing trades, including stop loss and take profit executions. Breaking it may lead to termination of the account.
FundedNextStellar 1-Step, 2-Step and Lite funded accounts5 min before to 5 min afterOnly 40% of profit from trades in the window counts. Losses count in full.

For a release at 8:30 a.m. ET, that means 8:28 to 8:32 a.m. ET (12:28–12:32 UTC) at FTMO and 8:25 to 8:35 a.m. ET (12:25–12:35 UTC) at FundedNext and FundingPips. The US is on daylight time until 1 November, so 8:30 a.m. ET is 12:30 UTC on 14 October.

Is CPI on each firm’s list?

This is the part that differs from a simple “all news” rule.

FTMO. The restriction applies to selected announcements and to the instruments those announcements affect. FTMO’s page on DXY and XAUUSD lists CPI among the events that restrict those two symbols. We did not find a source confirming CPI for major forex pairs, so check the restricted-event marks in FTMO’s own economic calendar for the symbol you trade. Instruments not targeted by the event are not restricted.

FundedNext and FundingPips. Both rules refer to listed or high-impact news. Whether CPI is on the list for your account type, and for your instrument, is on each firm’s own page and calendar. VERIFY CURRENT DATA.

Details that are easy to miss

FTMO. The restriction does not apply during the FTMO Challenge and Verification, or to the Swing account type. A position opened before the window may stay open, but a stop loss or take profit triggered inside it counts as a violation.

FundedNext. News trading is allowed in the Challenge phase with no profit adjustment. The rule covers trades opened or closed in the window, including pending orders, stop loss and take profit.

FundingPips. Trades opened 5 hours or more before the event are excluded. FundingPips also states that purposely trading news is prohibited in the evaluation and the master phase.

What this means in practice (analysis)

If you hold a funded account, the simplest approach on CPI day is to decide before 8:25 a.m. ET whether you are flat or holding through, and to check that no stop or target sits close enough to trigger inside the window. The FTMO rule can end an account; the FundedNext and FundingPips rules affect the profit you keep. Rules change, so read each firm’s own page on the day. VERIFY CURRENT DATA.
