Cover graphic: Best Gold Trading Brokers: How to Choose in 7 Checks

    Short answer

No broker is best for every gold trader, and Marlin publishes no broker ranking. Compare brokers on seven checks: which regulated entity serves you, the real cost per XAUUSD trade, trading hours, platform, margin and close-out rules, funding and withdrawals, and client protections. Read each broker's own contract specifications, and remember CFDs can lose money rapidly.

    Key takeaways

    • Check the legal entity that serves your country, not the brand name. Protections differ by entity.
    • Cost is spread plus commission plus swap, and it changes with the account type. Read the broker's own contract specs for XAUUSD.
    • In the UK the FCA limits CFD leverage, requires margin close-out at 50% and negative balance protection. Offshore entities may not offer these.
    • We have reviewed FxPro and Bybit TradFi. Marlin earns commission on some links; that does not decide what we write.

    The seven checks

    1. Regulated entity. Find the legal entity that serves your country and look it up on the regulator’s register. Protections depend on the entity, not the logo.
    2. Real cost. Spread + commission + swap for XAUUSD on your account type. Read the broker’s contract specification page.
    3. Trading hours. Daily breaks, weekend gold symbols and holiday hours.
    4. Platform. MT4, MT5, cTrader or TradingView: which connects, and does it suit how you work?
    5. Margin and close-out. Leverage on gold for your client category, margin call and stop-out levels.
    6. Funding and withdrawals. Methods, fees and how long withdrawals take.
    7. Protections. Negative balance protection, segregated client funds, any compensation scheme.
What UK rules say (FCA, read 30 October 2026)

For retail clients the FCA’s CFD rules limit leverage (between 30:1 and 2:1 depending on the asset), require positions to close out when funds fall to 50% of the margin needed, guarantee a client cannot lose more than their total account funds, and require a standard risk warning that shows the share of the firm’s retail client accounts that make losses. Rules outside the UK and EU can differ a lot.

    What we have reviewed

    • FxPro: a multi-regulated broker with MT4, MT5, cTrader and its own platform. See the FxPro review and Trading Gold with FxPro for symbols, hours and costs.
    • Bybit TradFi: gold, oil and FX CFDs on MT5 funded in USDT, provided through an offshore entity. Not directed at residents of the UK, US or Canada. See the Bybit TradFi review.

    Before you deposit

Open a demo, read the contract specification for XAUUSD, note the all-in cost and the margin rules, and set your risk limit first. For gold itself, read How to Trade Gold (XAUUSD), the Gold Marlin Score and the pre-session routine. If you trade a funded account, check the news windows too.

    How this was prepared

    Checked 30 Oct 2026

This guide is a checklist, not a ranking: we do not rate brokers numerically. The UK rules come from the FCA's CFD page, read on 30 October 2026. Provider facts come from the reviews linked below, each with its own sources and dates. VERIFY CURRENT DATA on the broker's site and your regulator's register before opening an account. Facts are separated from analysis and opinion; anything that could not be verified against a current source is marked VERIFY CURRENT DATA. Read the full methodology and editorial policy.

    Frequently asked questions

Which is the best broker for trading gold?

It depends on where you live, the account type, the platform you want and how you trade. We do not rank brokers. Use the seven checks and read each broker's own contract specifications for XAUUSD.

What does it cost to trade XAUUSD?

Three parts: the spread, any commission, and swap (overnight financing) if you hold. Brokers publish them on their contract specification pages and they differ by account type. Compare the all-in cost for your style, not the headline spread.

Can I trade gold on the weekend?

Some brokers offer a weekend gold symbol, but spreads and rules differ. Check the broker's trading hours and whether weekend prices are the same instrument.

    Is an offshore broker safe?

It may not have the protections of an FCA or EU-regulated entity, such as investor compensation schemes or negative balance protection. Read the entity's licence and what it covers before you deposit.

    Is gold trading risky?

Yes. CFDs are complex instruments and carry a high risk of losing money rapidly because of leverage. Gold can move sharply on data releases and can gap through stops. Only risk money you can afford to lose.
